The room was so horrible and bathroom plumbing fixtures not functioning. I was staying in room No. 4011. And my stay was for 4 nights. On the 3rd day on my return from kandy, to my surprise the whole room was full of water. All my suitcases and other materials were swimming in the water. All the wedding cloths is my wife got spoiled. It was a loss of ₹ 1.00 lacs to us. I complained to the authority. Immediately the room was changed to No. 4005. When i spoke to the front desk about all these, only u got the reply “SOORY FOR TYE INCONVENIENCE” When I argued with them they said please lodge a compliant where you have booked your booking

The toilet seat cover was smaller than required for the closet. When i reported this to the hotel, the house keeping person informed me that nowadays the toilet seat cover comes only in that size. I was surprised by this answer. The glass windows were also dirty. The breakfast buffet had a good spread.

Great location. Excellent ambience like an exclusive country club. Veranda h restaurant has excellent views and a great vibe. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. On the negative side the bathrooms are too old fashioned and the bathtub is a potential accident hazard

It’s is very old property built in 1864 and the hotel is closest to the sea. You can get in colombo. The property is aging but still maintain nicely. The sea facing restaurant is marvelous and worth trying. There are continuously events happening there, and it’s hustling bustling hotel. The staff is very courteous and take care of the guest nicely. It is next to indian high commission in sri lanka.

I appreciate the very fact that this property is a heritage property, and a certain things will be there in a way which maintains the tag of being it as heritage property. But one thing i really do appreciate and that is service i experienced during this trip. Had a lot of issues the basic toilotieries were not filled regularly despite reminders and when i asked one day it was not even sent to room and another day it took almost 40 mins to get it. Linen were not changed despite of notes.

The location is fabulous, one hears and sees the gush of the sea all the time. The food is legendary, especially its wonderful buffet breakfasts and lunches on its expansive verandah by the ocdean. Its amenities were very good and generous, the bathrooms expansive with thoughtful bathtubs overlooking the ocean, and its services - always with a smile. A small wifi problem saw an it manager bring a powerful router to my room to solve it immediately. The legendary mr ratnayake at the entrance in his grand traditional costume perfectly mirrors the courtesy, old=world charm and grandeur of the hotel it is full of history, artefacts and memories. If you're in colombo, you must stay at least a couple of nights at the gfh.
