Hotel Ateneo is in a quiet street about 400 meters from San Marco Square. It takes about 1 hour to reach from Marco Polo Airport by water Bus. Nearby stop is Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma you will have to cross 2 Bridges to Hotel. So if you are carrying more luggage s then you will get Porter ( Mostly Bangladeshi) and will charge min about Euro 15 for 2 bags and if you have more bags it will cost you Euro 20-25. But though expensive, it is worth. Hotel Has no elevator so you will need to carry Bags on your own or if you are lucky Hotel Staff may help you if it is not odd times. As one can expect Rooms are small size, very difficult to maneuver in room. We were carrying 3 Bags and was difficult to fit in but we managed. Bed size is queen. Bathroom was smaller too. No width in Bathroom. Probably size was 24" x 96", like a narrow strip. Room ambiance is typical Venetian hence loud colors and shiny. Breakfast was typical Continental and cold. Still adequate. Reception staff co-operative especially Francesca. Hotel has Lobby sitting and Veranda sitting for smoking. Some of the Murano lighting lamps very beautiful and typical Venetian. Best part of staying in this hotel is the proximity to all sight seeing place in Venice. Gondola ride is about 200 meters. Teatro La Fenice is round the corner. Walking from hotel through small alleys lined up with beautiful stores displaying Venetian masks and Murano Glass artifacts. If it is budget and time constrain then it is nice place to stay overnight. But I recommend Hotel Cavaletto which parking.
