Etihad Airways has come a long way in a small time and is now the flag carrier and the second-largest airline of the United Arab Emirates. It was established by the Royal (Emiri) Decree in July 2003 and wholly owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi with a mandate to operate safely, commercially and profitably.
