About Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest airline as well as flag carrier of Austria and is assumed to be a low cost air carrier. It is headquartered in the grounds of Vienna International Airport in Schwechat. It was established as Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG through the merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways and began operations on 30 September 1957. The domestic service by this airline was launched on 1 May 1963 and it began transatlantic services on 1 April 1969 with a Vienna via Brussels to New York service in co-operation with Sabena. The first Jet Airliner, “Sud Aviation Caravelle” was ordered by Austrian Airlines on 18 February 1963 and this Jet Airliner started to operate from 1973. Austrian Airlines started to standardize its fleet in a short period of time in favor of 9 Douglas DC-9-32. These Douglas serve for many years on short and medium-haul flights.
