About Belavia

Officially called Belavia Belarusian Airlines, Belavia Airlines is the flag carrier of Belarus. Though incorporated in 1996, it has been in operation since 1933, the year the history of civil aviation began in the country. Its first aircraft flew from Minsk to Moscow in 1936; by 1940, the air service provider was offering eight flights, carrying mail as well as passengers, on the route. Between 1961 and 1983, the airline fleet was rapidly expanded by adding AN-10s, TU-124s, TU-134s and TU-154s. The Belarusian Association of Civil Aviation was formally formed in 1991, and in 1996 it was renamed to Belavia.
